WOW! It has been a long time since I've read a book that has had such a profound effect on me. I'm not sure I've ever read one that gave me chills, made me shout for the sheer joy of a totally unexpected plot twist, and made me cry at the ending...all in one book. I was truly disappointed when there was no more book to read. It's going to be hard to find another book that can compare. In fact, I loved it so much I bought a hard copy to share with family and friends.I was a little unsure when I first started reading it. It sounded interesting...but I was skeptical. It took about five pages to totally captivate me. I found that all I wanted to do was finish what work I had to do so I could get back to it. It's well researched, descriptive without being overdone, the author at no point tries to "humanize" the animals and I love how it incorporates Native American spirituality. What a perfect way to illustrate the circle of life.
I truly can not say enough good things about this book and think it has ruined me for other books for a while. I recommend it to EVERYONE!! Will definitely read it again. Fantastic work!

Kudos to Savage! His discriptive prowess made me feel as if I were actually walking through the mountains in which this story takes place. I loved the story line! It changed my perception of our natural surroundings forever... One of the best books I've ever read!!

Tom clearly knows the Yellowstone ecosystem and the nature of elk. I, personally, learned a lot about the elk habitat and environment that I didn't know before reading his book. It's a great book, especially for those who know little about wild life. You can tell Tom is strongly connected with nature and his Native American culture. I would recommend it.
I can't believe all these raving reviews. I would suggest "Read Along Bambi" instead. There you will find proper punctuation, word use (matching singular or plural uses), proper spelling (not "teaming with life but teeming"). The book seems endless and so predictable. I see it is now a 'free' book. Any money spent on it would be wasted. I was so gullible.
Completely different from what I thought it would be
I was pleasantly surprised when I finished this book. I wasn't expecting the ending. It was well written and hope to see more books by Tom.
I loved the story of was great. I cried in some places and laughed in others.
The book me a new error check. Sentences and paragraphs are out of order which makes it hard to follow sometimes.
Even with these mistakes I would re-read this book of the corrections were made.
I think it's a great story.
Beautifully written, the descriptive sentences some of the best I've ever read. A gentle, sweet story that does tell of the circle of life and all of the emotions each of us feels as we make our journey. I will read this again for sure.
